Patients with Syndrome X have normal myocardial oxygenation and perfusion compared to normal volunteers: a 3 Tesla cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging study

چکیده
Introduction The pathophysiology of chest pain in patients with Syndrome X remains controversial. Previous studies using nuclear techniques or CMR to assess myocardial perfusion have shown conflicting results. Advances in perfusion imaging with CMR now enable absolute quantification of regional myocardial blood flow. Furthermore, blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) CMR provides the unprecedented capability to assess regional myocardial oxygenation. We hypothesized that the combined assessment of regional perfusion and oxygenation with CMR could clarify whether patients with cardiac Syndrome X show evidence of myocardial ischemia (reduced perfusion and oxygenation) during vasodilator stress compared to normal volunteers.

Patients with syndrome X have normal transmural myocardial perfusion and oxygenation: a 3-T cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging study.
BACKGROUND The pathophysiology of chest pain in patients with cardiac syndrome X remains controversial. Advances in perfusion imaging with cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) now enable absolute quantification of regional myocardial blood flow (MBF). Furthermore, blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) or oxygenation-sensitive CMR provides the unprecedented capability to assess regional myocard...
متن کاملFirst-pass myocardial perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance at 3 Tesla.
PURPOSE To test the feasibility of first-pass contrast-enhanced myocardial perfusion imaging at 3 Tesla and to evaluate the change in perfusion index between normal, remote and ischemic myocardium, we obtained perfusion index from healthy subjects and patients with coronary artery stenosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS First-pass contrast-enhanced perfusion imaging was performed on 12 patients and 3...
متن کاملRelationship between regional myocardial oxygenation and perfusion in patients with coronary artery disease: insights from cardiovascular magnetic resonance and positron emission tomography.
BACKGROUND It is recognized that the interplay between myocardial ischemia, perfusion, and oxygenation in the setting of coronary artery disease (CAD) is complex and that myocardial oxygenation and perfusion may become dissociated. Blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has the potential to noninvasively measure myocardial oxygenation, whereas positron emiss...
متن کاملDetermination of normal ranges of regional and global phase parameters using gated myocardial perfusion imaging with Cedars-Sinai’s QGS software
Introduction: Myocardial perfusion imaging using gated SPECT and phase analysis is an effective tool in evaluation of mechanical dyssynchrony. The purpose of this study was to determine the normal ranges of global and regional phase parameters. Methods: A total of 100 patients with normal resting and stress electrocardiograms, low pretest likelihood for c...
متن کاملAbnormal subendocardial perfusion in cardiac syndrome X detected by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging.
BACKGROUND In cardiac syndrome X (a syndrome characterized by typical angina, abnormal exercise-test results, and normal coronary arteries), conventional investigations have not found that chest pain is due to myocardial ischemia. Magnetic resonance techniques have higher resolution and therefore may be more sensitive. METHODS We performed myocardial-perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonanc...
